There is an urgent need to learn more about refractory epilepsy, where people continue to have seizures despite treatment with two or more epilepsy medications. Clinicians need to be able to identify people who are at risk of, and the reasons for, refractory epilepsy as soon as possible to prioritise and improve treatments.

The team expect to identify new information about the risk factors for developing refractory epilepsy. If the causes of refractory epilepsy are better understood, this could ultimately enable us to develop new strategies to prevent it.
