Introducing the Epilepsy Research Institute: A message from our Chair

We are delighted to share the news that the Epilepsy Research Institute launched today at the International League Against Epilepsy (British Branch) Annual Scientific Meeting.

The Institute will be pivotal in developing the UK epilepsy research ecosystem, which will ultimately have an impact worldwide, by increasing research investment, convening and coordinating national and international collaborations, and strengthening research infrastructure. Central to this will be a culture of advocating and actioning the research priorities of people affected by epilepsy.

The Institute will play a key role in bringing the research community and charities together under a shared vision and mission. We are delighted to be joined by our Founding Partners – Epilepsy Action, Young Epilepsy, Epilepsy Scotland and the International League Against Epilepsy (British Branch) – who are all committed to driving and supporting this step change in research into epilepsy.

We look forward to creating an ecosystem that will attract the best researchers to epilepsy and foster an ambitious and inclusive culture of collaboration. We know that research will only flourish with sufficient investment and the right infrastructure.

The Institute represents a seismic shift in the landscape. Our vision is for epilepsy research to be on the global stage and on the political agenda. We are united as a community to foster a real sense of hope and anticipation that science will deliver for people living with epilepsy and its associated conditions.

Over the next few weeks, we will share further information about our future plans. But for now, we thank you for your support as we set out on our journey to provide the research community with the leadership, resources and support needed to radically advance research into epilepsy.
