Dr Berna Özen
I've been working on central nervous system diseases, their pathophysiology and neuropharmacology. I had experience in stereotaxic surgeries, EEG recording, and behavioral studies in rats during studying absence epilepsy and also climate change and pharmacogenomic about epileptic diseases.
I graduated in 2019 from Marmara University School of Medicine as an M.D. I completed my residency at the Marmara University Department of Medical Pharmacology (2020–2024), specializing in medical pharmacology. I am currently affiliated with the Department of Medical Pharmacology at Mugla Sitki Kocman University Faculty of Medicine in Türkiye as a lecturer and researcher. I have also been a Ph.D. student in the Neuroscience Program at the Marmara University Institute of Health Sciences since 2022. I am a researcher specializing in neuropharmacology, with a primary focus on investigating the mechanisms and experimental models of epilepsy. My work extensively explores how various factors—such as chronic monosodium glutamate consumption, vitamin D, and high temperatures—influence seizure characteristics and neuronal morphology in genetic absence epilepsy models.I have been in eight poster presentations at major international platforms, including the ECNP Congress, FENS Forum, and several international epilepsy congresses. Moreover, I made an oral presentation at the 35th World Congress of CINP in Tokyo regarding the effects of Sertraline on absence epilepsy and behavior, granted by the TUBITAK 2224-A bursary program. My research portfolio includes various projects on combination therapies, metabolic enzymes and climate change effects on epilepsy.
