Mechanisms of genetic epilepsies
Dr Marisol Sampedro Castañeda is a Senior Research Scientist at the Francis Crick Institute, where she currently investigates the pathways underlying a genetic epilepsy caused by mutations in the CDKL5 gene, with a focus on ion channel proteins as treatment targets. She is particularly interested in understanding early brain development changes that can explain seizures and associated comorbidities in patients, and in how these mechanisms might overlap across different genetic epilepsies. Her work also involves pre-clinical drug testing in seizure models.
