Professor John Terry
Characterising the evolution of epilepsies using tools from mathematical modelling and machine learning, with the aim to create improved techniques for clinicians to better diagnose and treat people with suspected epilepsy. This approach is underpinned by developing tools for describing networks of interacting brain regions and characterising seizure initiation based upon network structures.
Professor John Terry is an Interdisciplinary Professorial Fellow at the University of Birmingham, where he is Founding Director of the Centre for Systems Modelling and Quantitative Biomedicine. Supported by a prestigious EPSRC Established Career Fellowship, Professor Terry’s research transcends traditional discipline boundaries, encompassing mathematics, computer science, biology and medicine. He is Co-Founder and Managing Director of Neuronostics Ltd, receiving the TechSpark Founder of the Year in 2024 for his leadership of Neuronostics. He is also principal investigator for the EPSRC Network+ award N-CODE, which brings together communities to focus on new solutions for diagnosis and management of neurological conditions in non-hospital settings.
