Prof Maria Thom is a Professor of Neuropathology at University College London. Prof Thom worked with the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) and diagnostic methods commission; she has been involved in a series of task forces with the mission to develop international neuropathology classification guidelines in epilepsy. Prof Thom has written autopsy guidelines for the Royal College of Pathologists on epilepsy deaths in 2006, revising them in 2019 and 2024/5. She oversees the Epilepsy Tissue Bank at UCL since 2013, which is the only tissue bank in the UK dedicated to epilepsy research.
