Summary

Clinicians are invited to collaborate on patient recruitment for an EMBOLD small-molecule study targeting SCN2A and SCN8A developmental and epileptic encephalopathies. Two UK sites are open for recruitment: Glasgow and Great Ormond Street Hospital. Clinicians can refer to whichever centre is most suitable for their patients.

Details

The study design allows only the first three visits to be in person. All remaining visits are provided at home by a homecare service overseen by the recruiting centre. Families receive travel and accommodation support.

Key inclusion criteria
• SCN2A with seizure onset in the first 3 months of life, or SCN8A-DEE with clinical and genetic confirmation
• Age between 2 and 18 years at screening
• Weight at least 10 kg
• At least eight countable motor seizures in the 4 weeks before screening
• At least eight countable motor seizures during the 28-day baseline observation period

Countable motor seizures include:
Generalised tonic clonic, bilateral tonic, atonic (with fall or risk of fall), bilateral clonic, focal motor (any awareness level), and focal to bilateral tonic clonic.
(Myoclonic and absence seizures are not countable.)
