This year’s London Marathon was a long time coming (18 months and 3 postponements due to you know what) but the day did not disappoint… it was (just about) worth the wait!
It’s always been the biggest race in the calendar, and the 2021 event delivered yet another electric day of inspirational fundraising and palpable community spirit. I was thrilled to be back out on the world-famous course, cheering on our 12 #TeamERUK London Marathon runners along with the whole team and our Team Brain partners.
We cheered loud and proud as our Mighty Marathoners passed us on Tower Bridge and the Embankment. It was impossible not to feel emotional, especially given that some of our runners had trained for this iconic event not once, not twice, but three times. Each and every member of #TeamERUK has a personal connection to epilepsy and know only too well how it interrupts the lives of those affected, including their friends and family.
It was brilliant to meet our London Marathon #ERUKTopChamps (view the full set of our London Marathon runner playing cards here!) and their friends and families at our post-race reception celebrating their incredible achievement. We were able to hear more about why our super supporters took on the London Marathon for Epilepsy Research UK, and what it meant to them.
I’d like to say, on behalf of everyone at Epilepsy Research UK, a huge thank you and congratulations to all our London Marathon runners for the months of determined training, committed fundraising and the incredible tenacity they all showed on the day. Thank you also to everyone that sponsored and cheered on #TeamERUK – together they have so far raised an incredible £31, 329!
We’ll be back next year for the TCS London Marathon on Sunday 2nd October 2022. If you’ve been inspired by our brilliant runners, visit our events page here for more details on how you can take part and support research to STOP epilepsy interrupting lives.
Best wishes,
