Our wonderful William died of SUDEP on the 16th September 2021 at the age of 26.
He leaves behind his loving parents Nick and Anna, brothers Henry and Luke, sister Victoria and the extended family, his friends and his dog Mojo who all love and miss him dearly.
He was first diagnosed at the age of 6 and had difficult-to-manage epilepsy. Later he was recognised as having high-functioning ASD. He saw the world differently from the rest of us. His was a positive world full of amazing possibilities. Even from a young age he never complained and despite many setbacks he showed enormous resilience and rarely became despondent. William had many ambitions. He wanted to spend time with his friends having fun, have a job, work in the Film Industry and live independently. He achieved all of these.
Amongst his friends he was known as a peacemaker, generous joy bringer and master of chill.
He became well known in the local Job Centre for his good nature and persistence which eventually paid off. He spent many happy hours gaming with like-minded folk in The Hive in Banbury. He had a real talent for painting characterful birds. William was a highly valued member of the Cherwell Theatre Company for over 10 years. He made close friends whilst studying Media at college and together they created a few short films for which he also wrote the scripts. Through the kindness of friends, he was put in contact with a film Director who recognised his passion for films and engaged him as a Production Assistant and an Extra which brought him enormous pride and joy.
Against the odds, William became the proud resident of an apartment in a new development supported by his kind P.A., Paul.
It was only when we entered the crammed church for his funeral did we realise quite how many peoples’ lives he had touched in a way that had a lasting effect.
He was, and is, amazing. He is now in Heaven, having fun no doubt. It is only us left behind who are sad because we loved him immensely.
We will continue to fundraise in William’s memory to support research into SUDEP to help other families dealing with epilepsy.
