JOHN'S PLEDGE FOR RESEARCH
John’s wife Claire lived with epilepsy but refused to let it define her. She had a zest for life and refused to let her condition stop her from taking on adventurous challenges such as hiking mountains, whitewater rafting or climbing dunes in the Canary Islands. She sadly passed away from epilepsy shortly after retiring at the age of 60.
Claire decided to leave a gift in her Will to epilepsy research, and since her passing John has pledged to do the same. John recently spoke to the Epilepsy Research Institute to reflect on their life together, the challenges Claire faced with courage, and why he pledged to leave a legacy to the Institute.
“I made this pledge because:
- I witnessed how epilepsy affected Claire’s life and mental health.
- Epilepsy cut Claire’s life short and deprived her of the retirement she was hoping to enjoy.
- Claire firmly believed in research as the key to improving treatment and outcomes for people with epilepsy.
- I know this would have made her happy.”
