The epilepsy research community tells us that opportunities to meet, share results and discuss the latest findings with likeminded professionals are invaluable. While the Institute has organised many well-received national meetings, we know that many people would appreciate smaller and more local meetings with researchers from nearby institutions. While networks of research and clinical groups exist across the country and hold these types of meeting, there are gaps. As a result, some researchers feel isolated and can’t get feedback on ideas and plans or make connections with others working in a similar research area.
Networking for Networks
Our Capacity Building Theme identified that we could learn from groups and networks who hold successful meetings and provide some best practice recommendations to help researchers start successful networks in their areas.
In April 2025, our ‘Networking for Networks’ meeting brought together researchers and clinicians with experience of running successful networks in their respective fields. We heard presentations and held discussions with input from people who’d like to start or join a network. The group then established some best practice recommendations for new networks.
Support for new networks
These best practice recommendations are now available, alongside a small awards scheme to help new networks cover their initial meeting costs. Of course, we expect new networks that receive funding to follow the recommendations. Contact [email protected] for information about the awards scheme.
Join our epilepsy networks list
We are aiming to build on this initial work to ensure all epilepsy researchers can connect with others in their area, regardless of where they are in the UK.
