Dr Davide Giampiccolo
Brain circuits combining white matter anatomy and direct white matter stimulation
Dr Davide Giampiccolo is an Honorary Senior Clinical Research Fellow in the Research Department of Epilepsy at UCL and RCS Senior Clinical Neurosurgical Fellow in Functional Neurosurgery at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. Dr Giampiccolo’s research focuses on the functional neuroanatomy of white matter tracts to identify in individual patient brain networks that are dysfunctional and should be disconnected and those that are functionally essential and must be preserved to improve patients’ outcomes. Together with Prof John S Duncan is the editor of the book MRI Neuroanatomy: Cortex, Nuclei, Connection (Springer Nature, 2025). He is the youngest board member and scientific co-chair of the International Society for Intraoperative Neurophysiology. He has received a number of awards from scientific and clinical communities including the Organisation for Human Brain Mapping (2016), American Academy of Neurological Surgeons (2019), International Society of Intraoperative Neurophysiology, (2020). European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (2020), the British branch of the ILAE (2025), American Epilepsy Society (consecutively in 2024 & 2025).
