Professor Finbar O’Callaghan is Chief Scientific Officer at the Epilepsy Research Institute. He is Professor of Paediatric Neuroscience at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health and an Honorary Consultant Paediatric Neurologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
An internationally recognised leader in paediatric epilepsy research, Professor O’Callaghan has led pioneering studies to improve the understanding and treatment of complex epilepsies, particularly tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). His research spans clinical trials, neuroepidemiology and international collaborations, including major studies on childhood epilepsy, cannabis-based medicines and metformin in refractory seizures.
Professor O’Callaghan has also held senior leadership roles in the field, serving as President of the British Paediatric Neurology Association and Secretary of the European Paediatric Neurology Association, helping to shape paediatric neurology research and clinical practice across the UK and Europe.
