This week, the Institute’s Chief Executive, Rosemarie Pardington, presented at the International Bureau for Epilepsy Convention in Rome – a two-day workshop bringing together representatives of epilepsy associations from across the world. The event follows the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) European Epilepsy Congress, also held in Rome earlier this week.
Recognised as an international umbrella body, the IBE represents national epilepsy organisations committed to improving the social condition and quality of life of people with epilepsy and their carers. The Bureau also works closely with the ILAE – the world’s preeminent association of healthcare professionals and scientists working in epilepsy.
Rosemarie attended the convention to discuss the work of the Epilepsy Research Institute, including our Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) group – the Shape Network. Her presentation highlighted how individuals affected by epilepsy can become involved in research to help accelerate the development of new treatments and shape research priorities. Rosemarie also participated as a panellist in a discussion titled How Do We Accelerate Research and Innovation for Epilepsy in Europe?, in which experts explored ways to advance epilepsy research and foster innovation across Europe.
