Job vacancy: Chief Scientific Officer

The Epilepsy Research Institute is recruiting for the key strategic role of Chief Scientific Officer (CSO). This new position will help shape and deliver the Institute’s research strategy.

The CSO is a key senior executive level appointment taking responsibility, and a lead role, in seeking and securing a wide range of strategic partnerships with relevant bodies to accelerate the implementation and growth of the Institute’s research programme and wider impact through strategic investment. Reporting to the Chief Executive, the CSO will have strategic oversight of all the Institute’s research activity, supporting the coordination and cohesion of the science and research. 

The Institute’s strategy is underpinned by six themed research programmes – Neurodevelopment, Disease Modification & Therapeutics, Mortality, Morbidity & Risk, Reproduction & Hormones, Capacity Building and Enabling Technologies. Each theme is led by three co-leads, who are supported by a task force comprising pre-eminent scientists and clinicians, future research leaders, industry partners and members of the Shape Network. The theme co-leads and task force are developing the Institute’s comprehensive research strategy into these six areas which will feed into an overall roadmap for research into epilepsy to help secure large-scale investment.  

The successful candidate will meet the person specification and bring with them a breadth of experience across the science and research portfolio to work and influence at all levels and bring about the ambitious change we are targeting through the radical advancement of research into epilepsy.
