A message from our Chief Executive, Maxine Smeaton, on the past 12 months…
The team will soon be stepping away from our screens for the Christmas break but before we do, we’d like to say an enormous thank you for your continued commitment to epilepsy research in 2023.
This year saw the formation of the Epilepsy Research Institute – a watershed moment for the charity and for research into epilepsy. We also had a record year for research investment through our grant round, launched a new website and online researcher portal, held high-profile events at 10 Downing Street and the Francis Crick Institute, shared more research involvement opportunities than ever before through our Shape Network, and had a segment on BBC’s The One Show.
Next year the Institute’s work will begin in earnest with the appointed research theme leads forming task force groups to develop a comprehensive roadmap for epilepsy research. Only by bringing together the research community and our Founding Partners will we be able to secure strategic research investment from institutional funders. Investment that will fast-track innovations in the treatments and prevention of epilepsy for the 1 in 100. We are on the cusp of a revolution and together we will be the driving force for change.
